• Engaging storytelling through both dialog and prose.
• Clear, consistent portrayal of how you interpret the characters of the Squid Sisters.

We will not accept any portfolio work that utilizes tracing of another’s work, copying and pasting of another’s written work, or attempting to present work that you did not create as your own. Tracing a 3D model for 2D digital artwork is okay but you must have illustrated that work in a way that makes it your own.• The use of 3D rendered models ripped from any of the Splatoon games.
We welcome 3D art within the project, but we unfortunately cannot allow the use of in-game 3D models within the fanzine as the creation of those models is not the creation of the artist utilizing them. Any asset that has been ripped from the game is the intellectual property of Nintendo and it would be unlawful to include within our project.
Please be sure to show us 3D creations you have made entirely by yourself if you intend to create 3D art for the zine!• NO NSFW content of any kind.

This includes but is not limited to: linked social media accounts that have posted NSFW or share a public alt account dedicated to NSFW content, marked/ unmarked folders within their portfolios that contain NSFW content, or linked portfolio sites that contain marked/unmarked NSFW content, etc.
Again, there are minors on this project and it is unlawful to expose them to this sort of content. We take this very seriously and so NSFW content of any capacity is unacceptable at any point within this project.• Incestual shipping of the Squid Sisters.
The shipping of family members, Callie and Marie, is disallowed and unwelcome within the zine and/or submitted applicant portfolios.
BUILDING YOUR PORTFOLIO
We talked about what we are and aren’t looking for within the zine on our Zine Application Guidelines but if you’re looking for more info, we’re going more in depth on it here!> Art style
• Show us your favorite pieces that you really vibe with! The ones that energize you and get you pumped to draw! We’d like to see some sort of consistency here so we can better visualize how your work will look within the zine!• Splatoon art is not required but is encouraged since we’ll be able to tell how you draw the characters more closely!• Your work does not have to be drawn in the “Splatoon style”. We welcome all art styles and would love to see unique styles within the zine!> Anatomy
• Show us some cool poses you’ve drawn characters in ranging from things like standing, sitting, dancing, different angles you’ve drawn a character, etc. Anything as long as there’s variety! We want to see how comfortable you are with stepping outside of typical drawing comfort zones!> Environments
• We’d love to see work you’ve drawn that includes backgrounds that enhance the story of your drawing! We want to see more than just a character telling a story: we want to see their environment telling it as well! This could include things such as a spotlight pulling everyone’s attention towards your character on stage, a dim room lit by a TV with a character passed out asleep on a couch, or a warm and bright room that brings comfort to a character as they enjoy their time with friends within a coffee shop! Any environment that really adds to the story you’re trying to tell through the character’s actions!> Composition
• We’re looking for a solid understanding of how to compose and stage a drawing! This means we want to see pleasant balances of negative/ positive space and different alignment techniques. This may sound like some sort of fancy stuff, but really, they’re just simple tricks many artists use when it comes to planning out where they place things within their drawing! If you’re unsure about what any of this means, there are plenty of resources online that you can check out to learn more!
